Cohen
Co-founder of Friends and Executive Secretary
Jeannie Cohen was one of the lucky ones - she attended a traditional grammar
school at a time when classics was available to a wide audience. After
reading Mods and Greats at Oxford, she taught classics in both the comprehensive
and the private sectors in London for some 20 years. During this time
she was Secretary to the Joint Association of Classical Teachers for three
years. These were interesting years, as the National Curriculum was being
developed from scratch, and the fight was on to preserve the opportunity
for teaching Classics in schools. When the opportunity arose to start
Friends of Classics with Peter Jones, Jeannie leapt at the chance - and
has never looked back! She now works in publishing, where the benefits
of a classical education are of inestimable value.
